FAQs About Crane Ultrasonic Cool Mist Travel Humidifier

1. Is this crane ultrasonic cool mist travel humidifier not bpa free?

This crane travel humidifier is BPA free.

2. Will it work well for a 10×10 room? Do I need a bigger machine?

I use one in my office, 11×9 and it seems to do the trick. I keep my office door closed though and the level of humidity in the air is noticeable but not its not saturated. So I think it would suffice in a 10×10 room with the door closed.

3. How is this if you’re traveling every couple of days? I’m concerned about packing it while the wick is wet. How quickly does it dry after use?

The drying out all depends on the circumstance. If you left the wick out of water completely, it can dry out in about 8 hours. Depending on the humidity is in the room, give or take more or even less time. If you pack that wick filter in say a plastic bag, water will stay in it and it will take longer to dry out.

4. Does it have to be plugged in to work?

Yes, comes with a cable and USB can work in car.

5. Can you use oils in the water of this crane humidifier?

You can’t use oils with this crane travel humidifier. It uses a wick that would clog the unit.

10 Top Reviews for Crane Ultrasonic Cool Mist Travel Humidifier

1.  I love this product

I love this product. Some of the guys at work feel it should be what seems to be 40 degrees all day every day. I prefered a 72 degree place so I end up freezing. Instead of a thermostat war I got a space heater that I use all year round. That dried my face out very quickly to the point I had visibly dry skin especially around my eyebrows. I needed something small and portable that i could use with out taking up an outlets. I keep the humidifier on my desk plugged into my computer and it works wonders. I just have to fill it twice a day and it last the 9 hours I’m at work. My skin is getting better already. Just make sure to be careful not to pull the cord so it doesn’t tip.

2. A must have item for winter

This is one of the best items I have ever bought. It delivers a perfect amount of humidity, is insanely easy to use, and works great in my car too. I have been lamenting how dry the air in the car is in wintertime for years. When using the cars heat I can actually feel the moisture in my skin and nose disappearing in minutes. This handy item fits right in the cup holder and provides the perfect amount of humidity to offset the dryness of the car heat. I use it at Home next to me on my sofa and table to offset my dry heat in the apartment. Only issue is that it does over easily when on a side table indoors. Overall a truly awesome item. So glad I purchased it!

3. Exactly what I was looking for.

Works perfectly. I ordered because I travel for work and some hotels can get pretty dry during the winter. I needed some relief! I start this up as soon as I enter my hotel room.

As soon as you receive the product make sure the filter is pushed all the way up. Mine was not and initially did not produce any mist (even after soaking). I simply opened it and pushed the filter, closed it and it’s worked. I’ve used it with both the container it comes with and a glass from the hotel. Works great in both. When it’s off the light is red, when on it’s blue. If the water runs low it turns itself off.

4. Helps to prevent nosebleeds while traveling

I use this crane personal travel humidifier four years ago to travel to Germany for 3 weeks and loved having it in my room. I believe have a humidifier at night helps prevent nosebleeds. when I got back my dad had undergone a surgery and was having nosebleed issues and used it for a solid 3 years and it worked wonderful for him. I’m sure he never clean the filters and so eventually it went kaput I have bought a new one and loved it. It’s now in my travel gear and only goes when I travel but it’s in a travel kit…easy to care for easy to clean.

5. Great!! You should get this.

I have 2 of these. I have one at work. Our office is very dry and this is the only thing that seems to work for me without taking up a lot of space. During an 8hr day I need to fill it up 2x. Not bad at all considering that my office is huge and open fish bowl like. Its also very quite. I use regular tap water and it does just fine. I love the fact that it is auto shut off and plugs into my usb tower charger.

6. A must when traveling!

The water does seem to run out mid-night so I just use the ice bucket in the room for all night use.
Easy to travel with! Won’t travel in a super dry room again!

7. Highly recommend

Bought this as a second one for my boyfriend. He has one in the car but he liked it so much he wanted a second one in the room. Our normal room humidifier produces larger mist particles so it’s not as great as this one. The mist is very fine and it’s easy to use

8. Great For a Mid-Size Bedroom!

This crane travel humidifier is perfect for my mid-size bedroom. It will bring the humidity level from 36% to 48% overnight. And, it’s adorable! In order to travel with it, just remove the filter wick and squeeze the water out with a towel and throw it back into the little travel bag. Some people have complained that it leaves a pool of water around the humidifier. The instructions state that you need to soak the filter wick in water for 5 minutes before using it for the first time. I believe those users may have neglected to complete this step. The one time that I traveled with it and put the filter in dry, forgetting to saturate it first, the same thing happened to me. As long as you run the wick under water for a minute or so prior to using for the first time, you should be fine. You don’t have to do that every day, just when the wick has been completely dried out. I use it daily, in my bedroom at night and then I take it with me whenever I travel. I love it. Also, did I mention how cute it is??

9. Generates Substantial Column of Cool Mist, Despite Small Size

This CRANE PERSONAL COOL MIST TRAVEL HUMIDIFIER generates a substantial column of cool mist, despite its small size; and it really does run for several hours on a single tumbler of tap water. I especially like the included tumbler, which has a “safety lid” that prevents you from accidentally immersing the electrified portion at the top into the water in the tumbler.

The setup is easy. Soak the wick for 10-15 minutes; fill the tumbler with tap water; insert the wick in the humidifier; place the humidifier in the tumbler; plug the humidifier into a USB port (!) or AC plug (using the included adapter); and touch the power button on the humidifier. There are safety considerations–this is an electrical device used near water–so be sure to read the Safety Guide portion of the User Guide.

This is a personal cool mist humidifier, so it won’t do you any good unless you place it quite nearby–on your bedside table, chairside table, or on your desk. But it definitely produces enough mist to make some difference, if you have dry nasal passages, allergies, or other sinus problems. It’s very compact when stored in the included carrying case, and it comes with three wicks.

10. The box has 2 set of times but I soak the entire wick about 10 minutes just to be sure to get the best results.

When I open the flap of the Box, the first thing I see is the Quickstart info on the box (look at photo).

  • step1: pre soak the entire filter in water for 5-10 minutes before using.
  • Step2: place filter and fill tank (or cup) with water below the fill line.
  • Step3: Plug in using the USB or A/C adapter and press the power button.

Then when I open the lid to the box they had in Big Bold print (IMPORTANT before use: Soak the filter in water for 5-7 minutes):

So please soak the filter first for the mist to come out outerwise a dry wick will not work properly. The box has 2 set of times but I soak the entire wick about 10 minutes just to be sure to get the best results. of course the water tank that it comes with is not tall enough to soak the entire length of the wick so either you use a bigger cup or soak one end then flip it over.

Box includes:

  • Crane humidifier
  • water tank
  • total of 3 wicks (one inside the humidifier and two extra in bag)
  • usb Cord
  • A/C adapter.
  • carrying pouch
  • User Guide

Guide says to use room temperature tap water or distilled water. It emphasize DO NOT USE ESSENTIAL OILS, water only. The included tank has a white bottom and a gray top. The gray top section actually can twist off so it makes it easy to fill and makes it easier to clean. I fill the water up to the top of the white section (i do not physically see a fill line on the tank. the guide just says do not submerge the motor section) and then put the gray top back on. Once the wick is soak for the recommended time, I put it back into the humidifier and stick the humidifier into the cup. When I plug the Crane in, it immediately lights up red. The power button is actually not a button that you press but instead it is actually a touch activated type button and the moment I pressed the button, instantly the mist came out. When powered on, the light changes from red to blue (look at photo). It has a good mist for such a small humidifier. I noticed that if you want a stronger mist then fill the water tank only half way. Less water gives a stronger mist but that also means you would have to add water more often. look at my photo to compare the mist for full tank vs half tank (actually the mist in real life is actually more than what the photos could capture) For me filling up the water tank to the top of the white section gave me slightly over 8 hours of usage non stop. So I was able to fill it up at work in the morning then leave it run for the whole work day without refilling it. It is very good for use as a personal humidifier at work for just me. Do not expect to use this for an entire room but next to work desk or by a nightstand, that would be a perfect amount. I also noticed that the crane claims it to be cool mist and that is really true. I have a aromatherapy/humidifier at home and I compared the mist temperature just by placing my hand over the top of each and the Crane always had a cool mist throughout the day while my other one starts off cool (probably because the water I use is cool, then it later creates a warm mist. For me Personally, a cool or warm mist is not important to me but for my 2.5yr old son who is always hot and has ezcema, a cool mist would be ideal for him.

I knew the Crane would be small and compact but I did not expect it to see how small it actually was when I opened the box. Look at my photo for size reference. i placed a pen next to the Crane for comparison. The small size works well if you want to carry it or travel with it. Everything fits into the travel pouch. The good thing is that you are not required to use the included water tank. If you are traveling and you want to just bring the humidifier and not the tank then you just need to fill a cup/container with water (just make sure the container has some weight to it so it does not tip over). Just make sure not to fill the cup where the water touches the motor head. If you want the Crane to run for longer than 8 hours then you could put it in a container that is wide and holds a lot of water but just make sure the crane is facing upright and the motor will be supported so it will not submerge in the water. The thing I do not like is that the power wire is built into the motor head. it does not come off. I do wish it was something you could plug and unplug but it is not. it is connected as one piece. But at least on the other end of the wire is a USB plug connection so you have the option to plug the USB to the A/C adapter which is included or to a computer or any other USB power source. I liked that because If I travel with it, I could actually plug the crane into my portable battery pack and place it next to my son when he sleeps. The wire length is 5 feet long, but if I travel I most likely will not be bringing a extention cord so the battery pack is a nice option. The crane only has the power on/off button and nothing else. there is no timer features. When the water runs out, it shuts off by itself. I like the overall design. it is simple slick and clean looking. very simple to use.

One of the important parts for me is that it is easy to clean. I had threw away quite a few humidifiers (the larger capacity humidiers with built in tanks) through out the years because I could never clean the inside of the water tanks and it would get yucky inside even if I tried to clean it with vinegar. The crane requires to use a wick and it is recommended that you change the wick monthly or whenever it turns color. To maintain the Crane, pour out the water and let dry completely when storing. I open the tank and wipe it. I twist open the crane to take out the wick and dab it with a dry paper towel to let dry and then place over another dry towel to air dry. almost everything is accessable to clean except the little section inside the motorhead.
